Malaga is a city on the Mediterranean Sea, but it also a province. The coastline extends for more than 150 km of beach, from the easternmost area, the municipality of Maro; to the westernmost town, San Luis de Sabinillas. Here we will share where we think are the best beaches in each area.

Maro, is the easternmost coastal municipality of Malaga. It is known for its cliffs and coves dotted along the coast. The most famous beach is “Cala del Cañuelo”. To access this beach it is necessary to take a bus, since it is a protected area. It is a rocky beach, and amzing for snorkeling and sea kayaking. There are two Chiringuitos (rustic beach restaurants) near the sea where you can enjoy typical Malaga dishes.

Located in the town of Nerja, it is the most famous and popular beach among locals and tourists alike. Its popularity is due to a Spanish series from the 80s “Verano Azul”. This beach appeared in numerous episodes of the series. The beach is 800 meters long, with dark sand. It is suitable for everyone. The beach has the Q award for quality.

It offers leisure activities such as kayaking, paddle surfing and beach volleyball. It is ideal for the little ones for all its leisure activities.

In the surroundings there are different souvenir shops, ice cream shops and restaurants. The most famous of which is the Chiringuito Ayo , due to its appearance in the series “Verano Azul”.

Malaga city has several beaches and the nicest one is “La Malagueta”. It’s long at 1200 meters, (plenty of space for visitors!). A real city beach, there are numerous restaurants all along and on this beach, where you can taste different fish dishes, such as “espeto de sardina or pescaito frito”.

This beach is located on the easternmost part of Malaga City and is less well known to tourists than the much longer Malagueta. It’s well worth a visit however, with it’s crystal clear water. It is one of the best beaches in Malaga to see the sunset.
